Waymo Robot-Taxi Pulls Itself Over in Outer Richmond After Spotting Ghost Gun on Seat
Interior cameras flagged a loaded, serialless AR-style rifle; two juveniles were arrested and booked at the Juvenile Justice Center.
A late-night Waymo ride through Outer Richmond ended in a felony arrest on the morning of September 3, when the autonomous vehicle's cameras detected a firearm and the company alerted 911 dispatch. The incident was detailed in the Richmond District police blotter published October 18 by the Richmond Review, drawn from SFPD records. According to that account, the vehicle's interior cameras observed a passenger who had placed a firearm on the seat next to him. Waymo notified emergency services, and officers from Richmond Station conducted a high-risk felony stop on the 800 block of 40th Avenue, taking both passengers into custody without incident.
