San Francisco's Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on October 6 to impose a 45-day moratorium on new data centers and expansions of existing ones, a measure that takes direct aim at a facility already operating in the heart of Bayview-Hunters Point. The moratorium pauses the expansion of NOVVA, a 7.6-acre data center at 400 Paul Ave. in Bayview, which was slated to increase output from nine to 36 megawatts by 2028. The measure was first proposed by District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton and co-sponsored by Supervisors Connie Chan, Jackie Fielder and Cheyenne Chen, and took effect immediately.
