Hayes Street Enters September as a Live Entertainment Zone — With Compliance Questions Still Open
The 400 block of Hayes Street is running its full Friday-and-Saturday Shared Spaces schedule under the city's Entertainment Zone permit, while advocacy group Hayes Valley Safe says vendor-enforcement problems it flagged as recently as August 2026 remain unresolved by SFMTA.
The SFMTA posted its September 2026 Hayes Street closure schedule this week, confirming that the 400 block will remain closed to vehicles every Friday from 4 to 10 p.m. and every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the Hayes Valley Shared Spaces event. During those hours, the outbound 6 Hayes/Parnassus Muni route detours north onto Grove Street, with adjusted stop locations listed on the agency's website. The schedule is expected to continue through the end of 2026, with the SFMTA updating its page monthly. The street closure now operates alongside the Hayes Valley Entertainment Zone, which launched on June 6, 2026.
