Four Clarion Alley Murals Wiped Out After Property Owner Orders 'Graffiti' Cleanup
A building manager painted over four works in the iconic Mission District alleyway last week, leaving the 34-year-old mural collective scrambling to assess the damage and seek city support.
Four murals in Clarion Alley, the iconic Mission District passage with over 50 murals connecting Mission and Valencia streets, were painted over last week — three completely, one partially. The incident happened on a Monday when a neighbor saw a man painting over the works; by the time artist Doug Rhodes, who has a studio on the alley, spotted him, the worker was already on his fourth mural.
