My Town News is a free, independent weekly publication covering San Francisco's neighborhoods in depth. We publish every Friday, with a separate edition for each group of neighborhoods — from North Waterfront to Bayview & Excelsior.
We are not affiliated with any city agency, advertiser, political organization, or real estate interest. Our only obligation is to the readers who live in these neighborhoods.
Editorial Standards
How we research and write
Stories in My Town News are compiled from public sources, with assistance from AI. Our reporting process works as follows:
- We search and review public sources including city agency announcements, neighborhood association communications, established local media, library and cultural institution event calendars, and business websites.
- AI tools assist in researching, drafting, and organizing content from these sources.
- Every factual claim is traceable to a source listed on the Sources page of each issue.
- Readers should verify important details at the cited source before acting on them.
Quotes and attribution
We do not use invented or illustrative quotes. Statements attributed to individuals appear only when sourced to a verifiable public statement, press release, or published interview — with the source listed on the sources page. Named individuals appear only in their publicly documented roles. When the source is an organization or agency rather than a named individual, we attribute to the organization.
Images
We use photography from Unsplash, with photographer credit displayed on each image. Images are selected to match story content and geography.
Directory listings
Directory listings are assembled from public business listings, business websites, and the SF Chamber of Commerce. They are editorial-only; no business pays to appear in the directory. We refresh listings quarterly, or when stories surface new openings or closures.
