A 20-Foot Steel Sculpture Has Landed in the Middle of Alamo Square Park
The artist duo HYBYCOZO installed 'Axis Mundi' on October 15 as part of the Big Art Loop public art trail — and it will stay for a full year.
A striking new sculpture now stands at the center of Alamo Square Park, where it joins the neighborhood's Victorian skyline and the sight lines toward downtown. The piece, titled 'Axis Mundi,' was installed on October 15 by San Francisco-based artist duo HYBYCOZO — Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk — as part of the Big Art Loop, a citywide initiative placing large-scale temporary sculptures along a 34-mile walkable and bikeable route across San Francisco. The work measures 20 feet tall and is fabricated from powder-coated steel with LED lighting, according to the SF Arts Commission agenda item that approved the installation.
